    The University of Sydney is Australia's first university and has an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. It employs over 7300 permanent staff, supporting over 50,000 students.

    The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) runs large multicentre investigator-initiated clinical trials, takes part in trials of national and international collaborative trial groups and contributes expertise to trials run by others. Core funding is provided by the NHMRC and specific trial projects are funded by a variety of external bodies, including government, public and private institutions and the pharmaceutical industry.

    The CTC Statistics Group has a team of twelve biostatisticians and clinical biostatisticians who provide academic and research support to the research effort of the CTC. The CTC statistics group also provide scientific statistical advice and guidance to medical researchers associated with the CTC.

    We are seeking early career biostatisticians who are looking to pursue a career in biostatistics and are seeking to gain biostatistical experience in a medical research environment.

    You will need (for both HEO 6 & 7):
  • a relevant degree (statistics/mathematics or similar) and experience in statistical data analysis
  • program design skills and techniques
  • the ability to work through problems systematically and cooperatively with colleagues, line manages, study managers and implement agreed solutions
  • demonstrated ability to maintain high work standards with guidance and minimal supervision
  • high-level computing skills, including standard desktop applications and statistical packages
  • demonstrated project management and team-based working skills
  • experience in analysis of clinical trials data or similar (desirable)
  • knowledge of medical terminology (desirable).

    You will also (for HEO 7):
  • be working towards a post graduate degree (statistics/mathematics or preferably in biostatistics) and applied experience in using statistical data analysis and other relevant software packages
  • have the ability to lead project teams
  • have effective communication style to liaise and communicate with investigators (clinical and otherwise) external to the CTC
  • have commitment to assist academics in lectures and be a presenter in workshops
  • undertake consulting activities on behalf of the CTC.

    Remuneration package: $84,215 - $90,829 p.a. (which includes a base salary Level 6 $71,163 - $76,752 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).

    Remuneration package: $92,486 - $100,758 p.a. (which includes a base salary Level 7 $78,152 - $85,142 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).

    The successful applicants will be offered a full-time fixed term appointment with further offers available subject to funding, need and performance.
