General Information

The University of Newcastle is seeking a talented Senior Data Analyst to join the Planning, Quality and Reporting unit. The unit’s multidisciplinary team provides business intelligence via a Management Information System and web portal to support the delivery of institutional performance targets. The position will provide expert data analysis, statistical modelling, report writing and advice to inform and evaluate strategic planning, business intelligence, benchmarking and quality assurance activities.

The position is available on a full time, continuing basis.

POSITION TITLE: Senior Data Analyst
HEW LEVEL: HEW 9
FACULTY/DIVISION: Vice-Chancellor's Division
SCHOOL/UNIT: Planning, Quality and Reporting
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Associate Director, Planning, Quality and Reporting
ROLE STATEMENT:
Provide expert data analysis, statistical modelling, report writing and advice to inform decision making in relation to strategic planning, business intelligence, benchmarking and quality assurance across key portfolio areas of the University's operations to support the achievement of the University's strategic objectives.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Postgraduate qualifications in statistics, data science or a related degree with a statistics component and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in one or more statistical packages such as SAS (BASE, Enterprise Guide or Enterprise Miner), SPSS and Stata.
  • Proven track record in designing and conducting high level statistical analysis of large, complex datasets and using that analysis to support an organisation to achieve strategic goals.
  • High level data, analytical and writing skills including significant experience in the preparation of strategic and executive briefing papers and reports, committee papers and an ability to prepare reports for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in planning, analysis and evaluation.
  • Significant experience in engaging with stakeholders and developing constructive partnerships across organisational boundaries.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Health and Safety policies, procedures and guidelines of the University and provide input to assist continuous improvement in this area, encourage active participation in Health and Safety Processes and monitor the effectiveness in your area of responsibility and influence. It is also desirable that the applicant will have the following:
  • Experience in SQL and Excel.
  • Familiarity with data mining techniques.
  • Familiarity with the Higher Education Sector.

    Conditions and Benefits

    HEW Level 9: $98,285 to $105,305 per annum. Salary level within this range will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Compulsory contributory superannuation is a condition of employment plus generous employer contribution of 17%. A range of flexible salary packaging options is also available.
