The University of South Australia is a modern and dynamic institution with a rapidly growing international reputation. The Health Economics and Social Policy Group, led by Professor Leonie Segal, conduct research at the evidence/policy interface, exploring how to redirect investment to improve the health and wellbeing of the community. The Group works closely with the State government to enhance health economics informed decision making and increase health economics capacity in South Australia to improve the health of the community. The Group is currently working on seven nationally competitive, high profile research grants and a number of contracts for government which incorporate linked data, the access to which has taken many years of negotiation. The Group form part of the newly established School of Population Health and will be located at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute from early 2014. As Deputy Head of the Group, this is a prominent position that will provide expert leadership to the quantitative work of the Group, using linked administrative data sets. The position will also provide direction to the broader research program of the Group with a focus on building the research profile, capacity and outputs of the Group. The position will provide high level support and supervision to staff, honours and postgraduate students and over time will contribute to building the teaching capacity of the School of Population Health in the area of health economics.

This is a newly created position that present a rare career development opportunity for an accomplished health economist with a national and international profile. To be successful you must hold a PhD qualification and an individual research program, including significant outputs, which align with the research program of the Group. Demonstrated project management skills, high level data collection and analysis skills, strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential.
