Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Australian Institute of Marine Science

Postdoctoral Fellowship - Environmental Informatics

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) have recently established a collaboration in Environmental Informatics. As part of this initiative, opportunities for two outstanding postdoctoral fellows have been created. One position will be located in Townsville with the person employed by AIMS. The other position will be located in Brisbane with the person employed by QUT. Both Fellows will be expected to develop and maintain active research collaborations across the two institutions.

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is the leading national organisation researching tropical marine ecosystems in Australia. The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville, Queensland, Perth, Western Australia, and Darwin, Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support and has recently commissioned a state-of-the-art experimental ocean simulator in an extensive seawater precinct. AIMS excels in the monitoring of tropical marine ecosystems and continues to build some of the world's most spatially and temporally extensive data sets for such ecosystems.

These roles will contribute to capacity building in environmental informatics, conduct new research at the interface between statistics and ecology, and support, through research, improved environmental management outcomes focused on complex tropical marine ecosystems. These fellowships provide an exceptional opportunity for two early-career researchers with demonstrated experience and strong quantitative research skills. The successful candidates will be high achievers with strong publication records relative to career history, and a PhD (or near completion) in an appropriate discipline.

For the AIMS position, attractive working conditions apply including a remuneration package of AU$75,598 - AU$86,029 commencing salary plus 15.4% superannuation, learning and development opportunities, generous leave entitlements, a 9 day fortnight, commuter car transportation to site, relocation assistance and many other benefits. The AIMS fellowship is available for a fixed term period of three years, and will be based in Townsville, Queensland. Application information for this fellowship is available from www.aims.gov.au/employment .
