Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Biostatistics-Faculty of Social and Health Sciences

Applications are invited for a full time tenured Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Biostatistics in the Faculty of Social and Health Sciences at Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand.

We seek to appoint a biostatistician to work with researchers and students within the Faculty of Social and Health Sciences. We focus on applied interdisciplinary research that supports our teaching. The successful candidate will play a key role within the Faculty including applied statistical analysis, providing a statistical advisory service and teaching into our postgraduate programmes. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own research programme (particularly in collaboration with other researchers within the Faculty) and there will be scope for postgraduate supervision.

We are looking for someone with independent analytical skills and excellent teaching skills, who is collaborative and wants to work in an interdisciplinary research and teaching environment. A proven track record in academic publishing and successful supervision of postgraduate students would be desirable. Experience in the health or medical fields would be an advantage - we have existing research strengths in long-term conditions, cardiovascular disease, medical imaging, musculoskeletal conditions and their treatment - but the applicant will need to work across the whole Faculty, including education, social sciences, ecology and conservation research.

Applicants must have:

  • a Masters degree or a higher qualification in the relevant subject area/s of discipline
  • demonstrated recognition and reputation as an expert biostatistician
  • research independence with research outputs at a national level, including referred journals
  • demonstrated expertise and innovation in teaching and assessment
  • proven applied biostatistics and analytical skills
  • the ability to mentor and support other staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

    A doctoral degree in the relevant subject area/s of discipline and previous masters/doctoral level supervision experience would be an advantage.
