Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in Biostatistics

DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE AND SOCIAL MEDICINE

An opportunity exists for a full-time appointment in Biostatistics. This is a permanent position at Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level depending on qualifications and experience. Situated in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, this position is supported by the Division of Health Sciences to provide biostatistical consulting services across the Division.

Applicants should have a doctorate in biostatistics, or a closely related discipline, and evidence of a commitment to research. The ability to communicate well with a wide range of people, one-to-one as well as in groups, is also required. The appointee will be responsible for providing biostatistical consulting services to researchers in the Division of Health Sciences based in Dunedin, as part of a group of consulting biostatisticians, currently numbering five in total. The consulting statisticians provide advice on the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of research to researchers in the Otago School of Medical Sciences, Dunedin School of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Schools of Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. There is potential for developing longer-term research collaborations.

In addition to consulting, the appointee will be expected to engage in collaborative health research. There will be opportunities and encouragement to provide research student supervision in biostatistics or public health, and conduct independent research. However, primary responsibility for delivering the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in biostatistics for public health and related disciplines lies with the three academic biostatisticians employed by the Department.

There are excellent opportunities for research collaboration in the Department, across the university, and with health sector organisations.
