    The Brain and Mind Research Institute (BMRI) is a multi-disciplinary centre focused on diseases of the brain and mind. The BMRI operates a range of laboratories each under the direction of a principal researcher and also clinics and other research facilities, some of which are shared.

    We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to support a current study in the field of military psychiatry directed to the families of Australia's Vietnam veterans that is being conducted in conjunction with completed fieldwork data collections from Vietnam veterans and their wives/partners, and completes a family study of the effects of war service and combat trauma on the warriors and their families.

    In this role you will:

  • conduct statistical analysis of existing and forthcoming data sets
  • conduct literature searches and write summary reviews
  • assist in the preparation of research data for publication and presentation
  • assist in the preparation (in consultation with the Study Director) of relevant ethics and scientific documents including preparation of ethics applications, draft manuscripts and grant applications
  • attend and assist in presenting data at project and departmental meetings, study meetings, internal seminars and external scientific meetings.

    To succeed in securing this role you will have:

  • research experience in data analysis of large complex data sets using SPSS in multivariate analysis
  • research experience in literature reviews of psychological status
  • excellent time management, organisational and analytical problem solving skills
  • demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • computer literacy including Access and Excel spreadsheet management
  • a track record of high quality research, publication and grant application
  • demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • A higher degree in a quantitative health related field such as Biostatistics, Psychology, Epidemiology, Public Health or population research or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
