ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT
The Audit Office of NSW provides assurance to NSW Parliament and the public in accordance with the Public Finance and Audit Act (1983). Its major outputs are Financial Audits, Performance Audits, and Compliance Audits. These generate high quality public reports on the performance of the NSW public sector.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
Provide a statistical analysis, interpretation and advisory service to the Audit Office.
Increase the organisations understanding, analysis and use of large data sets from government agencies such as health, education, treasury and the public service commission.
Determine the accuracy and reliability of agency and across government data and whether they support key performance indicators, funding agreements and contracts, productivity and efficiency measures.
Provide specialist advisory support when participating in planning, conducting and reporting high quality performance with the Performance Audit Leader, Business Team Leader or Assistant Auditor-General.
Identify effective and efficient statistical analysis tools for performance audit and to recommend how best to acquire, use them.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Relevant graduate and/or post graduate qualification in statistics or related analytic discipline.
- Experience in the application of appropriate qualitative as well as quantitative analytic techniques and tools to real-world problems.
- Experience cleansing and analysing large data sets using a range of statistical techniques
- Desirable - Experience undertaking temporal, geographical and case-mix adjusted analyses to describe and compare the performance of systems and/or the delivery of services.
Skills and Experience
- Understand methods and measures to collect, validate and report information on service delivery performance.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret statistical analysis and present results in accurate, concise and accessible form in reports.
- Knowledge of the management and use of large data sets in areas such as health care, education, and/or Treasury including their strengths and limitations.
- Independently prioritise workload, manage time and collaborate with a highly skilled team to deliver a portfolio of projects.
