The Sydney Medical School is part of the University's Faculties of Health, the largest and most comprehensive grouping of health and medical education and research in the Asia Pacific region. It conducts cutting-edge research and provides medical education and training in more than 100 associated teaching hospitals and research institutes and centres.

Perinatal Research within Sydney Medical School - Northern is part of the partnership between the University and the Royal North Shore Hospital. Our aim is to conduct practice- and policy-relevant epidemiological and perinatal research to improve maternal and infant outcomes. A major focus of interest is the use of population-based datasets and record linkage for epidemiological and perinatal research, and to develop research capacity in this field.

We are seeking enthusiastic and results-driven Research Fellows to join our research group and contribute to the development and implementation of research programs within the Clinical and Population Perinatal Health Research team, and to lead independent research relevant to the broad field of perinatal population health. The positions will be located within a vibrant and growing team of senior academics, postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students at the Royal North Shore Hospital campus at St Leonards, Sydney.

In this role you will:

contribute to the design, implementation, management and reporting of perinatal population health research projects and make an independent contribution to research through leadership of components of exiting research and development of new projects

undertake quantitative analyses of population-based datasets, including linked population datasets, to address perinatal population health research and evaluation questions

prepare research publications and presentations, including peer-reviewed journal articles and plain English summaries for diverse audiences

develop applications for grants or fellowships or other sources of funding

supervise postgraduate students and junior research staff

participate in meetings, presentations and other events relevant to the work of perinatal research

provide administrative and research support.

To succeed in this role you will have:

a PhD or equivalent in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or health with a strong component in epidemiology / biostatistics

demonstrated skills and experience in epidemiology or health services research of relevance to perinatal research

experience in the design and analysis of observational or interventional epidemiological studies

advanced skills in biostatistical analysis using SAS software including multiple regression and logistic regression, multi-level models, time series analysis

experience in the preparation, management, manipulation and analysis of large, population based datasets or linked administrative datasets

track record of peer reviewed publications and conference abstracts

excellent communications skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with researchers and collaborators.
