Lecturer in Statistics

The School of Mathematical & Physical Sciences at the University of Newcastle is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate to a continuing Lecturer (Level B) position in Statistics.

The School teaches statistics into programs in engineering, science, health and business, as well as offering a Bachelor of Mathematics. With strengths in Categorical Data Analysis, Bayesian Analysis, Multivariate Statistics, Time Series Analysis, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Environmental and Ecological Statistics and Climate Change Research methods the School's high-calibre academic staff contributed to our University being ranked well above world standard in statistics in the 2012 Excellence in Research for Australia rankings.

About the role

  • Full-time, ongoing role
  • Located at our Callaghan campus in Newcastle, NSW
  • Teach and develop of specialised undergraduate and postgraduate courses
  • Contribute to research in statistics
  • Apply for industry/government research funding
  • Publish research in leading journals

    Skills & Experience

  • A PhD in statistics.
  • A strong publication record relative to opportunity, particularly in publishing research results in top-ranked international journals.
  • Experience in working productively on industry-linked research projects, or demonstrated capacity to contribute effectively to these projects if given the opportunity.
  • Ability to be a highly effective teacher in a tertiary environment, preferably with experience in teaching at the University level.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in research student supervision is desirable.
  • Potential to attract industry/government research funding is desirable.

    Academic Level B - $84,700 to $100,582 per annum, plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 17%.
