The Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research (CHSSR) is an internationally leading multi-disciplinary research facility and is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic biostatistician to contribute to a range of research projects across the Centre. The successful applicant with be required to develop and apply statistical models and methods and undertake data processing and statistical analyses of complex clinical error and observational datasets. The successful candidate will be required to provide advice about, and participate in, the design of analysis strategies for a range of research studies including the analysis of large administrative health datasets, as well as prepare research publications, presentations and grant applications.

We are seeking an applied biostatistician who is interested in working in a multi-disciplinary team and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders within the health system. The successful applicant will continue to develop and expand their own research strengths and interests, particularly as they align with the Centre's research programs.

Selection Criteria for Post-Doctoral - Level A applicants:

Essential

  • PhD in statistics or biostatistics; or a PhD in public health or related field with a masters qualification in statistics/biostatistics
  • Demonstrable advanced statistical modelling and analysis skills with experience with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R
  • Demonstrable experience in processing complex data sets including computational algorithms for converting data into files suitable for statistical analysis, and/or previous experience using large datasets
  • Experience using and analysing linked datasets
  • Research track record with peer-reviewed publications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff, students, management, health care providers and recipients, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience and interest in applied healthcare research
  • Demonstrated experience to make a useful contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of the Centre and Institute with a track record of effective team work

    Desirable

  • Experience and interest in interdisciplinary and multi-method research
  • Experience in the development of ongoing partnerships with industry and/or professional bodies

    Criteria for Research Fellow - Level B applicants:

    Essential

  • PhD in statistics or biostatistics; or a PhD in public health or related field with a masters qualification in statistics/biostatistics
  • Demonstrable advanced statistical modelling and analysis skills with extensive experience with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R
  • Proficiency in complex generalised linear models and mixed models analysis
  • Understanding of temporal stochastic processes
  • Demonstrable experience in processing complex data sets including computational algorithms for converting data into files suitable for statistical analysis, and/or extensive previous experience using large datasets
  • Experience using and analysing linked datasets
  • Research track record with peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated ability to secure research grant funding
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff, students, management, health care providers and recipients, and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated academic knowledge in the discipline and a capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the delivery of programs, lectures and tutorials
  • Demonstrated experience in making a contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of the Centre with a track record of effective team work and leadership.

    Desirable

  • Experience in successful research supervision.
  • Experience in the development of ongoing partnerships with industry and/or professional bodies

    Salary Package: Post doctoral Research Fellow (Level A) base salary $64,402-$86,719, Research Fellow (Level B) base salary $91,403-$108,146 plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. Pro-rata rates apply for part-time appointments.

    Appointment type: Full-time or part-time fixed term position, for 3 years.
