This Lecturer position is one of a number of positions within a new centre for research in biostatistics that has been established in Melbourne with funding from Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The Victorian Centre for Biostatistics (ViCBiostat) is a collaborative cross-institutional venture led by biostatisticians at the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics at The University of Melbourne, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Department of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine at Monash University.
Ideally, you will be hold a PhD in statistics or a closely related discipline and are seeking to develop a career as a biostatistical methodologist in population health. The primary focus will be on problems of causal inference using complex observational data from large cohort studies. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to pursue research related to the more general ViCBiostat research themes around multilevel modelling and methods for the analysis of longitudinal and correlated data structures.
Your research skills will be complemented by an ability to teach into the graduate coursework program of the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. The appointee will undertake independent teaching in biostatistics and epidemiology including the supervision of both postgraduate coursework students pursuing research projects and research higher degree students.
The appointee will report to Dr Lyle Gurrin in the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and as a member of the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health's academic team will be expected to support the broad ethos of the School and the School's compliance with University policies and procedures, including environmental health and safety.
