Statistics Jobs in Australia: 2015 January - March

Jonathan Karnon, 12 January 2015

Research Fellow

University of Adelaide

This position is funded by a recently awarded NHMRC project grant to estimate a "cost-effectiveness threshold" for the Australian health care system. The project is a collaboration between the University of Adelaide and the Centre for Health Economics, University of York (Professors Rice, Sculpher, and Claxton). See http://www.york.ac.uk/che/research/teehta/thresholds/ for details on the English project, which forms the basis for the current project.

The advertised position covers the first phase of the project, which involves the analysis of two large datasets: one describing mortality and health care expenditure by statistical local area in Australia over 3 to 4 years, and using instrumental variables to control for the endogeneity of expenditure with respect to mortality; and one combining quality of life data from multiple population-based surveys and research studies. The quality of life dataset will be messy, and assembly is to be completed.

The subsequent phase, for which the appointee will be in a strong position to apply, will involve a more qualitative process, working with decision makers to disseminate the estimated threshold.
