Epidemiologist

South Western Sydney Local Health District

Position: Epidemiologist, Population Health, South Western Sydney Local Health District - Full-time

Purpose of Position: To conduct monitoring and surveillance of health status of the population of SWSLHD; conduct population health research and evaluation; provide high-level advice in epidemiology, evidence-based approaches to population health and in research methods to the District Executive, Population Health and others via the Director, Epidemiology.

Key Accountabilities: The roles and responsibilities for this position are:

  • Provide high-level advice in epidemiology, evidence-based approaches to population health and in research methods to the District executive, Population Health and others.
  • Analyses of routinely collected data to help define population health and health service priorities across the District.
  • Conduct literature and systematic reviews to develop evidence-based information for health priorities and initiatives, advocate the use of evidence-based information and effectively communicate such evidence.
  • Undertake epidemiological research, write research and ethics proposals and assist in attracting external research funding.
  • Contribute to identifying long term population health priorities and population health program planning on the basis of available information and research.
  • Assist to develop and advise on local responses to key population health initiatives.
  • Manage specific research and evaluation projects and programs in collaboration with others both within and outside of SWSLHD.
  • Contribute to peer reviewed publications.
  • Support the professional development of staff involved in population health activities.
  • Other duties as directed by the Director, Epidemiology.
