The Department of Statistics is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on biostatistical research funded by an NHMRC Program Grant titled "Advancing the Evidence Base for Care and Policy in Priority Health Areas". The grant is held jointly by the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, the Boden Institute and the Department of Statistics at Macquarie University. The role will be located at Macquarie University under the supervision of Prof. Ian Marschner, but will involve substantial collaboration with the other partners.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in statistics or a related discipline and will be appointed at Level A on the academic scale (Step 6 or above). The appointment will be for 2 years. Both full-time or part-time appointments will be considered. Applicants are required to have the right to work in Australia. Applicants with a strong interest in the application of statistics to health and medical research are encouraged to apply. The role will involve a mix of independent methodological research in biostatistics and applied collaborative work on clinical research projects. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to interact with a team of biostatisticians at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre working on a range clinical research projects in oncology, cardiovascular disease, neonatal medicine and other areas. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent research agenda, including exploring opportunities for external funding.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A PhD in statistics, biostatistics or a related discipline
  • Ability to conduct research independently
  • Demonstrated ability to write scientific papers
  • Strong computing skills including knowledge of R
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

    Desirable

  • Experience with the application of statistics to health and medical research
  • A well-articulated research agenda and a record of good quality publications

    Salary Package: From $83,344 to $89,320 p.a. (or pro-rata for part-time appointments) (Level A Step 6-8), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.

    Appointment Type: Part-time or full-time, fixed term for 2 years
