Professor of Applied Mathematics/Statistics/Resource Modelling

This position is a joint appointment between the University of Queensland (UQ), a leading research-intensive university in Australia, and the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF), the lead research agency in developing quantitative solutions to protect and conserve Queensland's fisheries resources while maintaining profitable commercial and enjoyable recreational fishing sectors.

The discipline of Mathematics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics in the Faculty of Science at the University of Queensland. It is the leading provider of applied mathematical and statistical education in Queensland, with extensive undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (MPhil and PhD) and coursework. The Discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence and hosts a number of first-class research centres. The role:

A key purpose of the role is to advance the area of applied resource mathematics at UQ and DAF. The successful candidate will head the Centre for Applications in Natural Resource Mathematics (CARM) within the School of Mathematics and Physics at UQ. The aim of this Centre is to be an international leader in the development and application of mathematical and statistical theory and tools that will provide outcomes in the management of fisheries, water security, conservation, and adaptation to global change. It will also develop an educational program that will provide UQ students with quantitative skills critical for Australia's future sustainability. The Centre has funding support from UQ and DAF. The person:

Candidates with research interests in the application of mathematical tools to sustainable fisheries management are encouraged to apply, especially in areas such as: single and multi species population modelling; spatial modelling; bio-economic and socio-economic modelling; management strategy evaluation; adaptive management; optimal monitoring tool development; and ecosystem-based fishery management. The appointee must have an outstanding international research record, demonstrated high-level leadership capabilities and the ability to guide, reinforce and enhance the research culture of CARM and DAF Fisheries Research Program, Fisheries Resource Assessment (FRA) group.

Remuneration:

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment until 31 December 2020 at Academic level E. The remuneration package will be $169,971 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be $198,866).
