This position is part of the ARC Linkage Grant LP140100152 Modeling Healthcare Systems held jointly by the University of Melbourne, the University of Tasmania, and Monash Medical Centre.

Modern hospitals are very intricate organisations that provide a diverse range of services such as emergency departments, general and specialised wards, operating theatres for emergency and elective surgery, and outpatient facilities. For more than a decade, hospitals world-wide have experienced an increased demand for their services in the face of growing constraints on resources and budgets. In addition, governments have insisted on acceptable patient performance targets whilst maintaining and improving quality and safety.

In this project we aim to analyse some healthcare systems using a variety of mathematical models with a view to better understanding them, and to provide meaningful results that will enable healthcare practitioners to be better informed when making decisions.
