Postdoctoral Fellowship Biostatistics

    The Position:

    Applications are invited for a 2 year Postdoctoral Fellowship who will join a multidisciplinary team working with specialists in statistics, imaging and mental health. The role will be based in Melbourne Parkville, working with specialists at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. The candidate will spend the first 3 months in Brisbane to become familiar with the data, the collaborative projects and the researchers involved, prior to being based solely in Melbourne. You will apply appropriate statistical methodologies to answer research questions provided by the many collaborators within the institute, and will contribute towards conference proceedings and journal manuscripts. The subject area of the research conducted is in Alzheimer's disease, primarily assessing biomarkers associated with early onset of disease.

    Specifically you will:

  • Under the direction of senior research scientists, carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Undertake appropriate statistical analyses of research data to answer research questions as set out by collaborators.
  • Report on specific objectives set out within collaborative agreement to collaborators when requested, and provide quarterly reports to stakeholders.
  • Produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.

    Location: Role will be initially based in Brisbane for a period of 3 months, prior to relocation to Parkville, Melbourne.

    Salary: AU$78K-AU$88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

    To be successful in the position you will have:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as biostatistics, computational biology, and mathematics.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing statistical algorithms to match phenotypically diverse groups.
  • Demonstrating experience in statistical programming languages such as R, Matlab, or other relevant statistical packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex scenarios, with evidence of ability to work with multiple competing priorities.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team at national and international conferences.
